It's Our Healthcare

SAN JOSE

A few years ago I suffered a heart attack. As a result, I am now only able to work part-time. Since I’m self-employed with a new business, I don’t have health insurance provided to me through my work.

Right now I’m on COBRA, but the payments are killing me. I spend over $2,100 a month to pay for coverage for me and my wife.

That’s more than our monthly mortgage payment.

I know that I can’t really afford this, but what else can I do? No one else will insure me and with my history of heart problems, it’s too risky to not have health insurance.

I JUST WANT TO GIVE YOU A KIND WORD OF WARNING ON YOUR COBRA. IF YOU PAY 1 DAY LATE YOUR COBRA WILL BE CANCELLED. FOR MY 11-1 THRU 11-30TH PAYMENT, I PAID ON DECEMBER 3RD AND WAS CANCELED. I WAS TOLD THE PREVIOUS MONTH THAT I HAD A 30 DAY GRACE PERIOD, AND I THOUGHT I COULD PAY WITHIN 30 DAYS OF NOVEMBER AND WAS CANCELED. I DON'T WANT THIS TO HAPPEN TO ANYONE ELSE. BEST WISHES, ALYSE.
