My father was able to successfully manage his diabetes for a long time. After he lost his job, purchasing COBRA coverage was much too expensive, so he had to go without.
Without the medical treatment to control his diabetes, a small infection escalated until he lost both his legs.
It’s been a struggle to watch my father go through something that could have been prevented if he had health insurance. He still hasn’t gotten any assistance and on top of all this, he has thousands of dollars in unpaid hospital bills to deal with.
We all need affordable healthcare so this doesn’t happen to hard working people.
